Why Support Swimming, Wrestling and Water Polo?

Maybe because they’re proving to be vital to national defense? In the wake of 9-11, the U.S. Navy has been asked to increase the size of the SEAL force by 20%. In order to do that, the Navy has been forced to find a large number of new recruits — and according to this report from the Today Show, they’re finding that many of the best are coming with experience in college swimming, wrestling and water polo:

Of course, as you already know, the very college programs that are producing these new recruits are under more or less constant threat of elimination by Title IX. Sounds like government’s right hand doesn’t know what the left hand has been up to, doesn’t it?
