Pacific Legal Foundation Aids in Effort to Keep Title IX Out of High Schools

By Steven G. Gieseler

The College Sports Council has been kind enough to ask me to contribute to this weblog, on the issue of Title IX’s application to high school sports. As the Pacific Legal Foundation attorney representing CSC in its petition action now before the Department of Education, I’m well-aware of the fine work the Council is doing on this matter.

I’ll begin by pointing to this recent op-ed we’ve drafted explaining how the Title IX-in-college horror stories we’re so unfortunately used to are threatening a move to America’s high schools. Indeed, the encroachment already has begun.

As the piece sets forth, applying Title IX’s quotas to high schools is bad public policy, and it’s against the law. Thus, our petition.
